"Freak Show" is an ode to my children who always tease me lovingly-- this song came to life in the carpool line at their high school on a Monday morning - the honking horns, teenage angst, and funny insults became the song.
lyrics
Freak Show
You might be tough, but you don’t know who you are
They talk about my mamma and they talk about my hair
Doesn’t even matter, cuz I don’t even care
I know who I am and I don’t get mad
They always talk trash, and here’s what they said:
You’re a freak show,
You’re a freak show,
Yeah, you’re a freak show,
You’re a freak show,
No matter where you go,
Yeah, you’re a freak show
I walked into the church, they’re all starin’ at me
They must’ve never seen a freak, not hard to believe
Don’t know what I said or what I did or why it was
But I heard the voice from the man up above,
Say you’re a freak show,
You’re a freak show,
Yeah you’re a freak show (freak show)
You’re a freak show
NO matter where you go,
Yeah, you’re a freak show (freak show)
You make me wanna throw up
Can’t do anything right
This is what they said
When I showed up that night
So I turned around,
No need to be there
But they followed me out,
And here’s what they said
You’re a freak show,
You’re a freak show,
You’re a freak show, (freak show)
You’re a freak show,
No matter where you go,
Yeah, you’re a freak show (freak show)
Now I’m sitting on the street, you honk your horn at me
Like you wanna start a fight, for all to see
With a bat in your hand you jump out of your car
But I just laugh at you, and keep playin’ my guitar
Cause you might be tough, but you don’t know who you are
But I’m a freak show,
I’m a freak show,
Yeah, I’m a freak show, (freak show)
I’m a freak show,
No matter where I go,
Yeah, I’m a freak show (freak show)
I’m a freak show,
I’m a freak show,
Yeah, I’m a freak show, (you might be tough but you don’t know who you are)
I’m a freak show,
No matter where I go,
I’m a freak show

Jeannie Caryn found her way to her guitar as a means of escape. Raised in “Sin City,” Las Vegas, Nevada, she longed for
something other than gambling, neon, or plastic to which she could surrender her soul. She is driven by her passion to capture and celebrate the human experience and make authentic connections through story and song. Someday, she'd love to see her name glowing in neon lights....more
I met Woody at a Dixie Tavern Open Mic in Georgia-- his songs blew me away-- his voice is rich and mesmerizing, and his playing compliments both his amazing story telling and vocal magic Jeannie Caryn
